Racing! Crashing...stuff!

Well the Auburn RR was a great test! It was all of nearly 70 miles and finished in a respectable 3:15 min. and change. We had a crash during the first 15 mi. of the day, which split the field a bit. Worked hard most of the day with the second group, but was toast on the final climb! Yes, we have a few hills in Kansas, believe it or not??
Finished 25th out of 50 or so, not a bad start to the year of racing. Preparing for the State Road Race in two weeks. Will have a teammate at the race with me and the course is pretty flat which will suite my skills well! This is all in preparation for the cyclocross season this Fall. These races will provide a great base and focus my training on long rides at the moment and up the ante for speed work as the year progresses!
Still keeping the Mountain Bike skills sharp by testing out the Rocks up close and personal!! Had a nasty Indo over some rocks today and landed hard on my Right Forearm. Thankfully I was riding with one of my teammates Jeff Smikahl who was a great help when I could not feel my right hand and arm for a long while. I was able to collect myself and drag myself the hour ride home. Most of it was on paved trail which eased the pain a bit. Ice, compression wrap, and Ibuprofen have helped calm things down and I hope to shift gears tomorrow on the road bike as this is a BIG week of training!
Next real Team race is August 15th. Everyone is doing there own thing at the moment and that is cool. Hope to have a great group and several teams entered for the Rapture of Misery team events. Keep on training and riding your bikes!

Auburn Road Race

Heading to the Auburn Road Race on Sunday! Should be interesting, have been on the mountain bike much more than the road bike. But, 67 miles of racing should test the fitness and hopefully help gain some fitness. Focus is still on the cyclocross season for me, but with the mountain bike racing lean in the KC area this year, it looks like the team will need to look at Central Missouri, Nebraska, and possibly Iowa for some Mountain bike racing this Summer? Auburn Road Race report after the pain on Sunday!!

Atleast the weather is supposed to be nice!!

Get out and Ride!!

Shoressports.com Makes a mark at local races!

The team finished the first official race weekend over April 18th and 19th. Five team members raced the crazy mudfest at Bonebender on April 18th. Most of the course was Hike a bike. Three members finished in the top 13 out of 58 racers. Two team members raced Neosho on Sunday, finishing in the top 4 of each racing class! All in all a great start to the racing season. We have many more races to go, so be prepared for more detailed racing reports!
The team members from st. Joe are planning a Crowder State Park ride for Saturday May 9th. Please refer to the http://www.stjmtb.blogspot.com/ for more details regarding this mountain bike team ride. With the mountain bike racing season looking lean, there are a seris of time trials and the state road races coming up over the next few months. There is also a dirt track racing series schedule for KC area starting the first Thursday Night in June and runs into September, this could help get our dirt fix and have a great time! For all Kansas city area racing information go to http://www.sunflower.com/~cmartell/kca/files/2009/2009kca_race_shedule.pdf for more details on upcoming races.
The next team sponsored race will be Rapture of Misery Held August 15th. This is a 6 hr / 12 hr. mountain bike race. You can do individual, duo team for the 6 hr., and/or 3 person teams for the 12 hr. We can plan accordingly for this race, but mark your calendar for this event, it will be another Epic endeavor!
Please go to www.shoressports.com to see the Monday Night SPIN! rides and Saturday rides from Lee Summit SPIN! starting on June 6th. Any team member is welcome to come do the rides and get 10% off of pizza after each ride. Shoressports.com is also the official ride coordinator for Joel's Ride being held May 31st in Southern Johnson County. Any team member who helps with the ride will earn $25.00 toward a race entry of your choice. Please let me know if you can come down and help with this event by May 26th.
One last note, for those who need a NORBA license or USA Cycling road license you can purchase your license at usacycling.org When you register yourself, use team code 12551 which is the shoressports.com racing / club ID number.

Gear up for a great Summer of riding and hope to see you on the road or trails soon!

Ride on!

BoneBender Team Sign up!

Team....

Please post under the comment section if you are racing the bonebender. If so, please list the following:
Full Name
Racing Category: 3 or 6 hr.
Age
T-shirt size
Most likely I will send an e-mail by next wed. April 15th, with team members information to the race promoter to enter you in your category. I will write the check the day of the race to ensure that the race happens. I have heard that they are modifying the course to accomodate any weather conditions. That means utilizing some of the paved trail, gravel, and making there own route via the grass opennings.

If this race is called off, I will be heading to the Baazar Road race. I am racing April 18th, no matter what!!

Let's shoot for a 6 p.m. staging at the bike shop next Monday night April 13th for a team ride. If the weather is too bad, let's meet anyway to discuss some races and team stuff??

See you on the Trails, Road, or on a bike somewhere!!

New Year! New Team! New Opportunities!

Okay, so I am getting back into this blog thing again. I have formed a new team for 2009, it consist of some old friends and new friends to the racing scene. We just received our new kits and I might say that they are pretty sweet! I will be posting some race reports and some general training information to this blog moving forward. If you want to see more info. about the team, go to the title sponsors website: www.shoressports.com and you will get more info. The team will be at Mtn. and Cross races mainly for 2009, with some selected road events built into the program.

If anyone is interested in learning how to race a bike, please let me know, our team is very low key and will cater to those who want to test the waters in the sport of bicycle racing. Notice I said bicycle racing, because if it has 2 wheels and you can pedal that is bicycle racing!!

I hope you all are well and I look forward to sharing updates through out the year! Now go out and ride!!
